THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Francesco
A tribute to a beloved friend
Much like the sandwich, Francesco is a man with lots of flavor! Originally from Calabria, he now lives in the mountains near Genova, Italy where he runs a small farm and farm-to-plate restaurant with his wife, Flavia. Tony came to know Francesco in 2017 while he was living in Italy discovering his roots. After meeting, Tony lived and worked on his farm and learned everything from Francesco including how to milk cows, make pesto genovese, garden the Italian way, and more. Francesco is a passionate man of the land. He loves to sing, eat, drink wine, and enjoy life. He has been a true friend and inspiration to us in creating the vision for Caffè Sorrento.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Serafino
A tribute to Tony's dad
Born in a small town in the province of Palermo, Sicily, Serafino (Tony's dad) moved to the U.S in the 1960's with his parents and sister. Together they opened Sorrento's Pizzeria in Lincoln, IL in 1969. Serafino eventually took over the pizzeria and ran it until he tragically passed away in 1998. He was a proud Sicilian man who loved to garden, collect muscle cars, ride horses, watch spaghetti westerns, and pick lemons at his parents home in Sicily. Serafino will always be remembered as part of the Sorrento's family as someone who worked hard and took the time to talk to and get to know his customers. Whether it was cracking a joke, showing an interest in your life, or just simply remembering you and remembering your order, he had an impact on people and was a memorable man.
At Caffe' Sorrento, we strive to keep Serafino's spirit alive by treating people the way he did. Our customers are more than just customers – they are friends and members of the community we live in.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Dino
A tribute to a beloved paisano
Born in a small town in Sicily, Dino immigrated to the United States as a young man with very little, worked hard, and made a life and career for himself and his family. We first met Dino and his wife Jenny when we first moved to Boise. Despite having a life in the U.S., he has always remembered where he came from and has always been proud of his Sicilian roots – we immediately bonded over that (and all the cannoli, of course). Dino and his entire family have been a huge blessing to us since moving to Boise. They've all taken us in as one of their own and made us feel at home. They have represented a new chapter in the Sorrento's story, led by this man here, which is why we dedicate the sandwich to DINO.
Much like the man, this sandwich is a classy combo that somehow manages to be sweet, sharp, peppery, and a touch nutty all at the same time.

Flavia
$13.50Roasted cherry tomatoes, burrata, basil pesto spread, arugula and balsamic glaze.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Flavia
A tribute to a friend who feeds us well
Flavia, born and raised in Genova, Italy, still calls the mountains of her hometown home. Alongside her husband Francesco (yes, another sandwich on our menu) and their son Tesfi, she runs Cascina Castello—a beautiful farm-to-table agriturismo and restaurant. When Tony worked with them a few years back, they welcomed him like family. From Flavia, he learned the art of true Italian cooking—pesto, gnocchi, parmigiana, wild chestnuts, herbs, and more. Fun fact: she doesn’t enjoy making tomato sauce, but she’s amazing at cooking with it!
A perfect tribute to Flavia—celebrating her roots in Genova, her love of growing and cooking, and of course, her talent with tomatoes. If you find yourself near Genova, you should check out their little restaurant “Cascina Castello” (“Farmhouse Castle”) @cascinacastello for an amazing meal.

Lisa

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Lisa
A tribute to a strong woman and mother
Lisa is Tony's mom – a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Midwestern beauty who fell in love with Serafino, a Sicilian immigrant with a dream to open Sorrento's Pizzeria in Lincoln, IL. She wasn't exactly what Serafino's traditional Sicilian parents pictured for their son, but she won them over the best way possible: by learning the language and cooking like a true Sicilian matriarch. After Serafino passed in 1998, Lisa held the family together and kept Sorrento's thriving to for nearly to more decades before retiring in 2025. She speaks Italian, Sicilian, and Spanish; cooks with the heart of the old country; and has protected generations of family traditions. She's warm, strong, and unforgettable.
Bold, bright, and unforgettable – just like its namesake.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Giavani
A tribute to a hardworking teammate
You'll find him at Caffe Sorrento every day, Giavani is a loyal, hardworking member of the team. He is the hands behind our focaccia, sandwiches, and even pastries when asked to step up. He loves Jesus, good food, and is a huge part of what makes this place special.
Giavani loves a good sauce on his sandwich, so we dedicated this one to him with its' lemon aioli as the star of the show.

Jimbo

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Meet Jim
A tribute to an unlikely but vital member of the Sorrento family
A few years after the passing of Serafino (Tony's dad), Jim married Lisa and helped her keep Sorrento's going for over two decades. Though not Italian and not who you'd imagine working at an Italian Pizzeria, he supported Tony's mom and played an important part in continuing the Sorrento's legacy and serving many people. He's funny, hard-working, and dedicated.
Since he typically enjoys a simple ham and cheese sandwich, we created the "Jimbo" in his honor of when you just need a simple sandwich.
